So, lets say a certain someone here forsees a long and well-awaited summer with no homework, no college and as of the moment no employment. Let's say said person might want to fill some of the hours trying to improve her drawing skills, finally!

So what would you lovely people out there suggest for someone who wanted to improve her drawing from life, particularly shading? I've always always wanted to be able to draw people, or at least draw what I see, and I really want to give it a go, so what kind of thing do you think I could do to work on it?

Shading...how about a room with no lights except the one that's coming from the moon, entering through a window? Maybe add a bit of blood and a knife =D

im very into the backstreets back vid at the mo (have you seen it?) omg its so cool :D....anyway...what about a pic of the 5 boys dressed in their costumes and make up...you said you wanted something to do ;)

Why not do still life exercies? You put a buncha stuff on a table and draw them.

This is a good idea :) For some reason I never get round to drawing actual things, just pictures of them. I will bear it in mind :)

The last poster's idea is a v. good one- by actually seeing it, you get a better idea of the light source and shadow. I'd also suggest you play around with different techniques and see what you come up with (i.e. crosshatching, scribbles, dots/pointilism)- y'might find one that works better than others. I've been doing a lot of inkwork as of late, so I've had to practice with different methods. ^__^
